Junior Singletrack Camp & Youth Camp
Your kids will be shredding, learning MTB skills, riding singletrack, and having fun!
Our Junior Singletrack Camp is also a great way for your kids to participate in MBO and be stoked on mountain bikes! This 3-day camp starts with one day of games on bikes and important MTB fundamental skills plus wheel lifts, skinnies, steep transitions, and more. Then two days of guided Oakridge singletrack mountain biking* on fun trails perfect to stoke all participants out.
Our long term goal is to develop your kid into your mountain biking buddy. After our camp, they’ll be ready to greet you on bike-riding days with a helmet, hydration pack, and bike in hand. They’ll joyfully show you their jumping and switchback skills. But more, they’ll shred any trail you throw at them.
NOTE: The below clinic is for 10-15yr olds. 5-9yr olds are welcome in our Junior Airbag Camp.
Singletrack Camp Schedule:
Thursday Evening:
- 5:00 – 6:00 PM: Evening Junior Singletrack Camp meet & greet for all clinic participants.
Friday:
- 8:00 AM – 8:30 AM: Drop your kiddo off
- We’ll help the juniors grab their lunches, have breakfast together, play some bike games, and more.
- We will have staff ready at 7:30 AM for parents who will be on early shuttles.
- 9:00 AM – 1:30 PM: Mountain bike instruction with games and drills.
- Focus on fundamental bike skills, starting with essential basics, and progressing to more advanced skills.
- Will include a morning learning skills session on the fun and safe jump airbags.
Saturday & Sunday:
- 8:15 AM – 9:00 AM: Drop your kiddo off
- We’ll help the juniors grab their lunches, have breakfast together, play some bike games, and more.
- We will have staff ready at 7:30 AM for parents who will be on early shuttles.
- Starting at 9:00 AM: Morning Instruction:
- Continue working on bike skills, progressing to more advanced skills.
- After Skills:
- Shuttle & Guided singletrack mountain bike ride, different locations for each day.
- Your kiddo gets to shuttle just like you!*
- * All clinic riders will be assessed on Friday before being cleared by Junior Singletrack Camp coaches to participate in on-trail rides.
All Three Days:
- 1:30 PM – 3:30 PM: Youth Camp with Activities
- Open to all families registered at MBO for FREE, not just those doing the Junior Singletrack Camp.
- Parents are encouraged to join their kids when back from riding.
- At Westfir Camp with a pump track, playground, and grassy area to play.
- Activities include art/drawing stations, art projects, and materials.
Details
Ages Served: 10-15 years
- Parent(s) need to be registered participants of MBO as either full participants or non-riding participants.
- All participants need to be self-regulated and be able to do basic self care.
Number of Juniors: Minimum Participants: 10, Maximum: 25
Instructor/Junior Ratio: 1 Instructor/5 Juniors including a crew of Jr Guides & Teachers.
Bike Skills Program Will Include:
- Basic and Intermediate mountain biking skills, focusing on the progression of each skill.
- Bike Safety and Equipment Use, Operation of Controls, Body Position, Trail Scanning, and Risk Management.
- Coach Robbie’s airbags, jumps, drop platforms, and pump track features – all under adult supervision.
- We teach in a safe, educational, supportive, and summer camp-like environment.
What to Bring:
- Light day snacks in your child’s day pack to compliment the MBO provided lunch
- Bike Requirements:
- Mountain bike equipped with knobby tires that are 1.75 inches or wider
- Bikes with multiple gears including at least five cogs in the rear
- Bikes with both front and rear hand-operated brakes
- Bikes inspected by a bicycle mechanic before the camp
- Other Equipment Requirements:
- Backpack with 1 liter of water, snack, and jacket
- Spare inner tube, hand pump, tire levers, and micro tool
- Correctly fitted bicycle helmet
- Close-toe shoes
- Recommended full-finger gloves and eye protection
The Junior Singletrack Camp Package Also Includes:
- Friday & Saturday afternoon shuttles.
- These shuttles are for all MBO participants, will not have a teaching component, and are for intermediate to advanced level riders that can keep up w/ a group pace.
- Kids will need to be with a parent and be comfortable with an adult pace.
- 80 acres to camp along the banks of the beautiful Willamette River. Primitive camping w/ no hook ups. Room for RV’s, campers, Sprinter Vans, cars, and tents.
- Hot breakfast & coffee each morning.
- Bagged lunch each day.
- FREE! Bike demos (Not youth sizes, but for those who can fit on adult size bikes).
- ALL INCLUSIVE nightly adult beverage garden (after 8 pm is adults only) that serves kombucha.
- Vendor area with many bike companies present showcasing their products.
- Nightly fun and games, including the famous mini bike race & music.
Our Safety and Intention Details
The number one priority at Mountain Bike Oregon’s Junior Singletrack Camp Program is the safety of all participants. The instructors at MBO are committed to providing fun instruction for all students based on skill level and physical strengths. Junior participants are asked to assess their own strengths and skill sets, and at times, challenge themselves. Instructors will always be available for assistance, but participants are responsible for their own personal needs.
Program Director, Dennis Sibilia-Young is a certified mountain bike instructor with extensive experience teaching youth mountain biking programs throughout Oregon and nationwide.
Frequently Asked Questions
The program follows the curriculum standards of the PMBIA Professional Mountain Bike Instructor Association. Curriculum is progression-based wherein fundamental skills are the basis for intermediate and advanced skills. Games and drills are employed extensively.
During our meet-and-greet session on Friday, we start getting to know your child. We assess their familiarity with bike riding. We also assess their social and learning capabilities. The assessment is performed through conversation, games, and observation. After meet-and-greet, youth are placed in groups of 3-8 students with compatible capabilities. Youth are assessed throughout the weekend, and re-grouped accordingly.
For early-morning arrivals (e.g., parent’s shuttle departs at 7:30 AM), please talk to the coaches at the meet and greet on Thursday evening. If you can’t make the meeting, please reach out ahead of time, but no matter, we will be able to connect with your child early enough that you can make your shuttle.
Bike Requirements Include:

The entire bike must be in perfect operational condition (brakes, gears, wheels, fasteners, and bearings correctly mounted, lubricated and adjusted).
We request no ebikes for the camp unless necessary.

Brake levers that can be adjusted for young hands are an important component for safe mountain bike riding.
We urge you to set up your child’s bike with brake levers that allow finger-reach to be adjusted for short fingers. Adjustable brake levers are typically found on hydraulic mountain bike brake systems.
Not a problem! Luckily we have Coach Robbie’s awesome air bag clinic, so your child will join this clinic for Saturday & Sunday. That way you can still go ride and your child will still be having fun on bikes!
